My Journey of Happiness by Paradise's Storm
Interesting how I didn't use a title "My Journey TO Happiness", but instead "My Journey OF Happiness". As you get older you realize that happiness is in fact a choice. The battles within our minds are constant. We are constantly fighting negative thoughts to be in a continuous happy state but its a lot of work. Bottom line is life is journey full of ups and down, right and wrong, happiness and sadness, rains and rainbows, caterpillar(ing) and butterflying ~ evolving. You can't become who you are suppose to be if you never face trails, obstacles, and challenges.
Not even a year ago, it was so hard for me to be mentally positive. Any small, negative thing that happened would send my mind on a world wind. My anger and hurt stemmed from several factors. I made those factors null and void in my life first but still didn't feel as happy as I knew I could be. First of all, Turning Negatives into Positives should be the first thing you accomplish. (Click the link and check out our most popular blog). Then you must determine and decide that your happiness can't come from anyone or anything else besides you.
You can lose yourself on so many levels but when you lose yourself mentally, its a shock to your body and your being. If you leave nothing for yourself, you will have nothing. Even with loving someone, we cannot forget to be there for ourselves. Don't forget you, who you are, your needs and wants, and what you like to do. You are important! Remember that.
I won't shy away from saying I have been seeing a therapist and mood journaling for almost a year now on a consistent basis. My decision to see a therapist stemmed from just disliking being in constant turmoil with myself and knowing that things were beginning to go too far. My decision to mood journal as well as see a therapist was me "not putting all my eggs in one basket" or depending on a human being to help me feel completely better. My mood journal was my way of helping myself get to a better place mentally. Whenever my thoughts became too heavy or I was way too worried about something small, I would just put it in the notes of my phone and lock the note away. I have been mood journaling since August of 2017. At first, I wrote in my mood journal on a consistent basis, every day almost. At one point recently I realized I hadn't mood journaled for 2 months straight. I also realized my thoughts were more positive and less heavy. I even have mood journals that are completely positive and it makes me so proud and thankful.
The therapist I see is just an outlet I use to stay on a positive track, vent, and receive an unbiased opinion. I'm open about the fact I see a therapist because there is nothing "not normal" or embarrassing about it. I want seeing a therapist to become a normalized thing. It's not always about being diagnosed with a mental illness or taking medication for a mental illness. Its about putting your mental health first. Your mental health is just as important as your physical health. Ignoring your thoughts and feelings will only make your problems worse. Being able to talk to a therapist and then actually work on fixing your problems is a major step towards being mentally healthy. Mental health awareness should not only happen in May during Mental Health Awareness Month, but all year round and every day in your life. Don't be embarrassed to tell someone how you're feeling and doing what you have to do to be in a happier, better state of mind.
My journey of happiness is one I plan to stay on for the rest of my life. As I evolve my strategies to happiness may change, but the purpose will remain the same... to choose happiness all the days of my life. My journey of happiness may include some sad days or hopeless moments but that's because it is life. Don't wallow in your sorrows. Glorify your triumphs, minimize your problems.
